Sam Azzaro is currently studying for their BFA with an emphasis in painting and illustration. As a LGBT*Q artist based out of Wisconsin, Sam takes influence from the landscape and urban legends around them in their nearby small towns, while exploring the stars in their queer existence. During their undergrad much of their focus was on the strange workings of the world and their existence within it.
After illustrating the children's novel, The Chronicles of Harmaniya, at the early age of seventeen Sam has been selling their work since 2011.
In 2013 Sam Azzaro won The Sax Award for Best in Show Multi-media piece in an exhibition featuring high school artists from across Wisconsin.
Sam was invited to take part of Eric and Heather ChanSchatz: 22nd Century installation in the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art in 2015.
Their work has been featured in the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Juried Show from 2015 to 2018, in addition to being a part of the Diverse Perspectives Showcase in 2017.
Sam Azzaro's work was part of The Reading Materials Exhibition held in Crossman Gallery at the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater, later traveling to the Madison for the Materials and Meaning Exhibition for the Wisconsin Women's and Gender Studies Conference in early 2018. A recent installment of their work, the "I Am..." series was featured in the TransLiberation Art Coalition's Fall 2018 show, in addition to Azzaro's Junior Review for their degree.
